Step 1 of 4

Start with the deal price.

Use the negotiated selling price, not the monthly payment.

Location rate plus motor-vehicle tax

Enter the regular combined sales-tax rate for the relevant Washington location without adding the separate motor-vehicle tax. The engine then adds the 0.5% vehicle tax as its own line.

Qualifying like-kind trade-ins

A qualifying trade-in can reduce the regular retail-sales-tax measure. The calculator also applies the reduction to its separate vehicle-tax estimate; confirm unusual transactions with the Department of Revenue.

Registration remains location-dependent

The result includes published common title, filing, service and tab charges. RTA, weight, electric-vehicle, plate and other local charges must be entered separately.

Source and method note

The calculator distinguishes official fixed rules from local or user-entered estimates. Dealer worksheets and licensing-office totals remain the final transaction records.
