Georgia TAVT Calculator
Estimate Georgia's one-time Title Ad Valorem Tax and keep the official vehicle-value question separate from dealer fees and registration.
Start with the deal price.
Use the negotiated selling price, not the monthly payment.
Georgia generally uses TAVT, not ordinary vehicle sales tax
The current TAVT rate is 7.0% of the applicable fair market value for vehicles subject to TAVT. For a new vehicle, Georgia compares the retail selling price with the state assessment-manual value and uses the greater amount before allowed reductions.
Dealer trade-ins and rebates
A qualifying trade-in made through a dealer can reduce the TAVT value. Georgia also allows qualifying rebate or cash-discount reductions in the new-vehicle value calculation. Private-party trades do not receive the same dealer trade-in reduction.
Title and registration
The calculator includes the standard $18 original title application fee and $20 standard passenger registration, then lets you add transaction-specific government charges.
Georgia generally uses the one-time Title Ad Valorem Tax (TAVT) instead of ordinary vehicle sales tax for covered titled vehicle purchases. The current standard TAVT rate is 7%, but the taxable value can depend on Georgia's fair-market-value rules and transaction type.

TAVT is not simply sales tax under a different name
For covered transactions, Georgia's one-time TAVT replaces ordinary sales tax and annual ad valorem tax on the vehicle. The standard rate is currently 7% of the TAVT value, but the official fair market value can differ from a negotiated dealer price.
Use the calculator as an estimate and verify vehicle value and any exception with the Georgia Department of Revenue when the official value is important to the final title transaction.
Trade-in treatment can change the taxable TAVT value
A qualifying dealer trade can reduce the value used for TAVT. The trade's gross allowance should remain separate from the lender payoff so negative equity does not get mistaken for the vehicle's trade value.
Rebates, family transfers, new-resident situations and other special transactions can follow rules different from a straightforward retail purchase, so identify the transaction type before relying on the standard example.
Georgia title and registration are separate from TAVT
The site adds the standard original-title and passenger-registration base amounts separately from TAVT. Specialty plates, penalties, county-specific processes and other vehicle categories can change the amount due.
A clean dealer quote should therefore show the TAVT line, title/registration lines and dealer-controlled fees separately instead of combining everything into one unexplained 'tax and tags' charge.
$30,000 TAVT value with a $10,000 qualifying dealer trade
If Georgia's applicable TAVT value is $30,000 and a $10,000 dealer trade qualifies for the deduction, the simplified net TAVT value is $20,000. At the current 7% standard rate, the estimated TAVT is $1,400. Title, registration and dealer charges remain separate.
